BIA designed the renovations and additions to convert an existing dilapidated 2-family residential building into academic office and research laboratory space for the Department of Exercise and Sports Science. The work was completed in phases over 2 years. The building exterior maintains the residential character and scale of the neighborhood, and the location, directly across North Street from the Recreation Center, was ideal. New office space, conference rooms and laboratory space provide needed program facilities, and a new 3-stop hydraulic elevator provides access to all floors. The building features a high-performance insulation package and a new ground source heat pump that provides a highly sustainable solution for heating and cooling.
