The Cosmosphere holds the largest collection of space artifacts outside of the Smithsonian and pursues a unique mission of science education through their space camp programs. Having expanded three times since its founding in 1962, the museum had significant accessibility and wayfinding issues. Initially approached by Cosmosphere about yet another expansion, through the master planning process the team realized that the revitalization goals could be achieved without expansion. A cost-effective renovation solution transformed under-utilized spaces into engaging new exhibits while simultaneously addressing the most common complaint of museum visitors – difficult wayfinding.
