Overview

Following completion of the Asset Assessment evaluation for the Franklin Park and Stone Zoos, BIA was retained to assist ZNE in the evaluation of synergies that exist between Master Plan exhibit projects and their more recently chronicled deferred maintenance needs. The intent was to incorporate as many maintenance projects as possible into “new products” which attract visitors and grow the institution (rather than just fixing old exhibits and support areas). The study identified 16 priority projects to be undertaken at a cost estimated in the range of $178M, over a 20-year time frame.

Results

Of particular importance to ZNE are repairs to two signature Franklin Park Zoo exhibits – the Tropical Forest and Bird’s World – both of which are need of major structural/envelope upgrades within the next 10 years. While funding sources are being sought, new grants and donation gifts have been recently secured, enabling several new projects to be undertaken at the Stone Zoo.
