BIA has completed several projects at Holyoke Community College since 2020, including DCAMM-certified studies, renovations to the Leslie Philips Theater to provide code and safety upgrades, and reconstruction of the South Plaza to provide new waterproofing and paving. While House Doctor projects are generally smaller in scale, they play a critical role in meeting a college or university’s need for ongoing maintenance and upgrades of the existing facilities on campus that are vital to supporting the institution’s mission and vision for the future.

Leslie Philips Theater – 2023, $1M: DCAMM-certified study to address code and safety issues in the theater, which was built in the early 1970s. Upgrades include a new orchestra pit filler, fire-retardant treatment of the stage curtains, new flooring, new fixed audience seating, new handrails and guardrails, new corridor ceilings, and upgrades to the fire alarm system and theater rigging. 2023, $1M.

South Plaza Reconstruction – 2025, $5.68M: DCAMM-certified study to address waterproofing failures in the nearly 50 year old central North/South Plaza which runs over a sub-plaza utility tunnel. The South Plaza deck assembly was replaced with a new slope-to-drain toping slab, new waterproofing, new paving, and new drainage. Leaking raised planters and deteriorated sloped building sills were removed to expand the plaza area and provide new built-in seating along the parapet walls. The new pre-cast concrete unit pavers extend the colors and patterning of the central plaza’s concrete paving in a thinner traffic-grade paving assembly.
